COLLISION PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE HUMBLE YET OFT IGNORED TRAFFIC CONE. DESIGNED TO BE DRIVEN OVER, THEY WILL SPRING BACK FROM VIRTUALLY ANY LEVEL OF ABUSE.
IN THIS PROJECT, CONES ARE CAST IN ALUMINUM, REDEFINING THEIR PERCEIVED VALUE.
PROCESS
Ideation
I bounced between manipulating real traffic cones and 3d modelling to find forms and combinations that both worked together and created tension.
Fabrication
The traffic cones were sandcast at a local foundry. The straight cones were cast as is, while I used caulk to secure and flatten the bent cone before casting.
